Recently I’ve run into a few new Longmont Business Marketing customers that have either recently changed their physical location, website url, etc. However, key data sources on the internet such as InfoUSA and Localeze weren’t updated with the changes, as the business owner didn’t even consider that they needed to do this. The data inconsistency can not only create customer confusion when finding the business on the internet, but it also creates conflicts among the key internet data providers that manifests itself in degraded search engine results. Search engines aren’t fond of inconsistent data, and tend to penalize businesses that aren’t compliant.
Small business owners need to be aware that when they make changes such as business name, business phone number, physical address, url/domain name, etc. that they must take a proactive approach in getting the key internet data sources updated. Updating this info can be a labor intensive process, as there are literally thousands of internet directories out there. To make matters worse, most business owners aren’t familiar with the complex structure of data sharing of the internet. Unless business owners are well versed in this processs, it may serve them well to hire this task out to a marketing firm.
